Default Twin FILLY needs YOUR help

This lady is in Ontario (I am assuming Canada). This is a cross post from another forum. I'm hoping someone here might have the resources to help with the TB Twin foal.

Hi ladies,
Well, here's the story. My girlfriend, Linda (lmason@allstream.net), who runs a TB boarding stable just delivered twin foals for one of her clients…..of course, this is not supposed to happen. They usually kill the smallest twin in utero, in racehorses. The ultrasound was not done, however.
The boy and girl are both about the same size, 80 pounds. Not too bad—the attending vet has seen smaller individual foals do fine. They got colostrum, but their immunity is lower than it should be.

The owner wants the filly destroyed, to give the colt the best shot at being a big strong racehorse (no comment), but is willing to give her away—so essentially, she now belongs to Linda by default, or she is PTS. The owner will allow the filly to stay on the mare until a nurse mare is obtained—hopefully no more than 48 hours. Unfortunately, a nurse mare costs $3000 for five months, and there is of course, the cost of feeding and caring for the nurse mare etc. We are hoping the vets attending the filly will be willing to give meds for free (she is on antibiotics currently, a precaution because of the weaker immune system), since they don't want to put her down either……or find vets who might be willing to help.

She is suckling, though her front knees are pretty bent back, and she needs support on her bum to stand and nurse. However, she is getting stronger and stronger (I believe they were born yesterday), and there is a huge will to live. The attending vet (and a second vet that was there) do NOT want to see her put down. They believe she has a good chance.
She has also been suckling on the bottle.

I am hoping that we might be able to help save this filly together. Linda doesn't have the funds necessary to save her, and though I pledged to help financially, I don't have all of it either. Perhaps thru small donations, we can do it together….OR, thru all your horse connections, we find her a place to go, that can give her the best shot at a good life. Linda is not planning to keep her (and neither am I!!)---so she, at best, will need a home at six months of age, when she is weaned off the nurse mare.

Anyway, please please cross-post to as many horsepeople as possible…….and contact Linda directly (either via email (lmason@allstream.net), or call her directly at 519-942-3485), if you can help, in any way!! If you know of a nurse mare, or a farm that she can go to, that would be able to provide a good life……whatever you can do!!
Thanks so much,
Dagmar
