Question pulled stifle

so, i was running barrels at this last open show that i was at, and coming out of barrel two, im thinking gator pulled his stifle. i know rest is just gonna have to happen, no question about it, but i was wondering if anyone knew of any liniments or anything that could help at all? any suggestions? i don't want to rush him, but i would love to be able to ride him @ county fair one last time. he is older, 14 and has had some lameness issuses, but its not his back or his front legs and he is super tender up in his stifle area. i have been using Bigeloil gel on him for now. any suggestions??????

Hmm, I don't really know of anything to put on it, but maybe try some hydrotherapy w/a cold hose for 10-15 min? Traveler pulled his last year, and it has become somewhat of a chronic issue. He's a stallion though and has to rear for breeding so there is constant stress on it. When he is ridden very hard, or carries a heavy person he tends to start balling up and limping.

Default You need the vet.

My horse had arthritic changes in his stifles, which I had to manage (read my "say no to Hylartin V" thread) The best way to know what is going on is to have the vet do an ultrasound to look at the soft tissue around the stifle joint.

best of luck,

C

You need to go and have it looked at, without a proper diagnosis to know exactly what is wrong and only treating it with liniments and rest you could start him back to soon and hurt him worse. Have your vet look him over and give you a proper diagnosis to make sure it is his stifle and not something else.

Good luck
