Default Wireless cameras? Anyone have them in their barns?

I was thinking of installing baby monitors and wireless cameras, but I'm not sure if there's anything particular for barns or that anyone can recommend?

Depending on whether you board or have your own place, when you look into wireless cameras make sure they broadcast the distance you need them to. My friend's barn has wireless cameras that broadcast to the internet, which, I think, is PERFECT because you can access it while you're away, at work, your boarders can access it. WHen I was barn sitting, I used it to keep an eye late at night. Other wireless cameras just send several thousand feet to televisions, which wouldn't be good for many people. As I understand it, you can buy them relatively cheaply at about $150.

I have a friend who has a baby monitor in his barn. His barn is farily close to his house so it works. You have to check the distance from barn to house to see if it will monitor at that distance.

A camera sending to the internet soudns like a great idea.

My girlfriend has one in her barn and it has sound and infared so you don't have to leave lights on making it more comfy for the horses. It works great you can see shadows and everything. It is wireless and it cost about $300.

We will be installing the same camera in our barn that we are building. OUr mare will be foaling next spring.

Do your research to find the one that works best for you. We have 1.5 acres so the distance thing is not a problem.

Default How Far?

How far do they go? I haven't looked into camera's at all as breeding is not a primary issue. But for theft and other issues they might be handy.

What brands are the best, I know nothing about horse cams but really must be the same as security cameras. Would like to hear some input from those that use them.

Got to say the baby monitor was a sleep saver.

I don't know if I can post this, please delete if it isn't supposed to be , but we sell one may not have the range you need but you are free to email me or pm me about it. I wished I had it back when my gals foaled maybe I would not have missed my one mare's beginning of labor *she showed no signs of immediate foaling* and we lost the filly.

If you would like to find out information on getting a great camera and hosting your horse on the web so you can have help watching your mare come foaling season, Go to www.foalingcams.com right now they are starting the website and will help you get all set up. Their other site is Avalanchefriesians.com We will have our camera up be this fall hopefully and will be on the site for foaling season. They are good honest people and will help you out. The camera they use, my other friend also uses and is the one I will be using come spring.

I have two barn cams in my barn but I only broadcast them on the enternet during foaling season threw marestare.com, It has been a live saver for me! I would have lost one of my mare and foal last year if I hadn't had them. I live in Indiana and a lady from Georgia called to wake me up in the middle of the night to tell me my mare was in trouble!
This year a few days before my mare was due to foal I was bucked off another horse, fractured several ribs and was on some pretty heavy duty pain killers. I went to there peasage board and asked for help keeping an eye on my mares and it was so great knowing I could close my eye and didn't have to worry cause my mares were being watched.
This next foaling season I'll have to post my cam address so you all can help keep watch too.
