Can anyone recommend a reputable equine therapy person or chiropractor?
Hello
Can anyone recommend a reputable equine therapy person or chiropractor? Must be licensed and certification up to date.
Please respond with details. I'm looking to see if there is anyone in the Columbus area (or willing to travel to Columbus) to take a look at my horses back.
Am thinking 4,5 lumbar may need to be realigned. I could be completely off about this assumption, however I must start some where. We have a bucking issue and would like to have his back looked at.
Thanks so much for looking

Sorry, Not in your area.
I would contact Judith Shoemaker DVM or Dr Carlos Jimenez[Complete Equine Health]
Both are located in Pa, but I would trust them to recommend someone in your area.

Perhaps try the vet eh? Never done that before? I done did that once. They hooked me up with a lady who was smarter than all the veternarians who could even speak German.

Sore back/skin inflamation
My daughter's 7 yr old eventer appy/thbred was not coming from behind and was sensitive on his back while currying. He was injected twice with Aduquan We called our acupuncturist when it got no better who said he was reactive in his herpes area and gave us Tramel to inject every 5 days. After three injections he had bumps along his neck, on his muzzle. and on his back with scabbing. The vet came out and after checking ,found his white blood count to be very low. She took him off the Tramuel, gave him an antihistamine/anti-inflammatory, Thermazene to be applied twice daily and an anti-fungal shampoo. After two weeks there is much improvement to the skin except after exercising when his skin becomes red and hot. His blood count is normal. Our trainer gave another injection of Aduquan yesterday for the stiffness. I read somewhere there is equine shingles. Since he is still sensitive along the right side of his neck and down his spine would it make sense? He does not have a cough and occasionally get a clear discharge from his nose. but only after much exercising never at rest. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I am not a knowledgeable horse person and rely on the people around me who are. I don't know who I should turn to. There has been no change in diet. detergent, ...He was moved with another pasture mate, but this began before the move.

I do have some very strong opinions about injections.
I HATE THEM.
Being new to the industry your best defense;
WHY?
Ask that question as often as needed or even more.
There is no such thing as;
We just do-Every body uses it- It is a standard practice- Don't worry about it- You wouldn't understand- Because- and the list goes on.
Treat your horse and your daughter[riding wise] like yourself. You would not take those answers about a medical procedure on yourself, nor should you for your horse.
If your Vet/Trainer/Farrier can't or won't explain the medicine, the procedure, the benefits and draw backs, a time frame to see an improvement and long term applications, don't allow it to happen or worse case look elsewhere.
7 is really to young to start injecting anything.
If he is really crooked a chiropractor is needed, if not proper shoeing, schooling starting with solid flat work then hills and finally speed, should make most of your unsoundnesses minimal.
Some over the counter supplements-Glucosimine,hydroluronic acid, msm can help.
X-rays are also very helpful- what are they treating. All lamenesses/sorenesses can be pinpointed. Treating a general area is taking shortcuts and being lazy.
Learn as much as you can about horses in general- but don't be afraid to ask why and if not satisfied ask someone else.
Now about him- Just a guess- But you have bad white blood counts and Appaloosa.
Have someone check for cancers- DON'T panic, They aren't as bad as in people, most grey/App horses have some form of it.
I've had 3 all lived well into their 30's and the one was showing @ 23.
The only thing I've found mildly effective is shark cartilage and you can find that at health food stores/ebay/kv valley.
Good Luck- keep learning.

Thank you for your reply. I am so aware that I am responsible for his health and comfort and I am continuously trying to learn more. I have asked three different vets and all were shocked by the "herpes area soreness so inject with Tramuel" .The concern now is his inflamed skin on his right side behind the saddle pad area. It looks and feels sunburned. We are in SC and the sun has been strong. We put his fly sheet on the past couple of days to try to shield the sun. He appears to be comfortable in his movements. He is sensitive, skin shakes, when he is touched on his right side. I feel totally responsible for him. He is harder to make decisions about than my children. He cannot verbalize how he feels and he is such a stoic fellow that he doesn't really show how he feels He loves his job. He RUNS UP TO US daily when we walk into is paddock. I just want to do what will make him feel better.UGHHHH!!!! Thank you again for your response. I am trying to learn as much as I can and you are the first who has offered support in my attempt to learn.GB

Shark Cartilage, has some studies that say it can treat Cancers.
I personally use it on any of my horses with Melonomas, usually greys although one bay App. who had Sarcoids.
I don't think they are are able to "cure" any of the health issues. But have seen happy, sound, healthy***?? horses. And in one instance the tumors got slightly smaller.
It is one of those things it works if you really want it to. No science to back it up.

It looks like it has a minimal amount of research to go with it, since it has been available short term.
It also looks like it is a 'specific use' drug.
What exactly are you treating ?
I would reccomend a Veterinary diagnosis before treatment.
This particular drug is prescription only.
Western Medical Ventipulmin

We have 21 yr old Colorado Ranger, that has heaves. What seemed to have caused it was the bottom ash that was in the barn. We removed him from the situation and now keep him in a walk out stall and spends most of his time outside, his breathing has gotten much better.
If it were me I would ask myself Are there lifestyle changes that I can make that might help.
Then I would ask my vet the same question after a diagnoses.
