Default Unknown swollen bump!!

OK so i just bought a 4 yr old horse about 1 month ago...we brought her to our barn.about a week later she developed a medium bump on her chest area. AS the days went by it got bigger..n bigger till it got to the point it popped and puss came out. alot. the bump went away and that looks fine.We injected her with penicillin but i dont know if it did anything. So about a week after that she got another one on her upper left leg.by her butt . The same thing happened. days went by it got bigger and just yesterday it popped and oozzed with puss! Can some one give me an idea of what it might be??virus?disease?? and what can i get to help it??! i tried to attach a picture of it before it popped. check this for the attachment

Isn't that an abcess? You should probably
have the vet take a look.

Your dealing with an infection, which needs immediate medical attention.

Typically abcesses do happen in the hoof to horses, but an abcess can happen anywhere. Any kind of injury where the skin is broken has to potential to abcess, and an abcess can be life threatening. Doesn't exactly sound like that type of an abcess though. If they are just spontaneously popping up and growing it sounds like there is an underlying factor. I don't know if you have pigeon fever in your area but maybe you should check this link out.

Kinda sounds like it, but you would be a better judge of the symptoms. In any case, call the vet. There is infection coming from somewhere and it could get serious quickly. Keep us updated!

I have never personally dealt with Pigeon Fever, if that is actually what the problem is, so I can't give a huge amount of advice. That's a pretty big lump filled w/infection, I know sometimes vet care is expensive but maybe just give them a call and talk to the vet. A lot of the time they are very willing to give advice over the phone. The vet may be able to tell you more accurately what to look for and how to treat this. I don't know if you have other horses but if so I would separate her from the others just in case. Whether she has pigeon fever or not, if she got kicked in one of these spots it could be very painful for her.

Abcess with puss or it could be strangles. I had a horse break out in lower region of throat. Get a vet to check it out.

Hmm yeah, definitely looking like you need to call a vet for some advice on this one- and possibly someone who has been through this before with their equine and find out what's going on.

I hope your horse gets well soon !
