Default stiffness after spring shots ?

I am in the process of buying a 12 yr. old horse and in every way he is just right for me. Passed the vet check exam and is in very good health. Last week, he had a reaction to his spring shots that caused him to be stiff. He has never had a reaction like this...owner has always given the shots herself. She's had him since he was two. After 24 hours he was some improved and was back to normal movement in about 72 hours. (the weather got really cold and snowy)She did call the vet and gave him bute. I am taking him this week for a 2 week trial period. Should I be concerned? Could this be a symptom of anything else? She's been very forthright with me all along. I have no reason to be suspicious, but don't want to be naive. Any advice?
Thanks!!!
