Default loss of weight

My horse has lost a huge amount of weight. We have had the vet out and he took blood but nothing came up in it. He also checked her teeth. He said that it could be worm eggs in the gut as she is not eating at all or grassing. He told us to put her on a 5 day worming plan so we did. Nothing changed. Left the vet scratching is head. She is still not eating hard food but she is grassing a small amount. The mare is a bag of bones on her last legs and we haven't got a clue the reason behind it. She 17 yrs old and usual to greedy 4 her own good so this is very strange behavior. do u have any idea? any advice would help thanks.

I don't understand the "could be"as far as worms go, he should have taken a fecal sample, and the answer would have either been yes or no.

Assuming that everything in the blood was normal, and so was her temperature, respiration, pulse, bowel sounds, capillary refill, manure, and very important neurological responce.

What are you feeding ? Make sure it is made for a horse, cattle, goat and stock feed are toxic to horses, and it hasn't gone bad or has rodent feces in it.
If she will eat something add a container of yogurt, it will help to rebalance her intestines and then start her back on hard food slowly.

Refusal to eat, normally tends to be a mouth issue.
You said teeth are good, but check again and look for infections or something in there that shouldn't be -stickers, ulcers, cuts- horses tend to put there faces where they shouldn't be. Smell her mouth for foul odors-Watch your nose if she is a biter.

No chance of getting near a poison-rat, weed killer ?

hi thanks 4 replying.
The vet checked her mouth and teeth and said that there was no issues there. as to temperature, respiration and pulse they are all a little high. but the vet didn't no the reason behind this. he said she may be in pain somewhere but couldn't locate where. he suggested giving her bute. but due to her not eating it is difficult to give this to her. also if it is a stomach/digestive issue i don't feel comfortable giving her bute?
shes on a light equine mix the same as she has been 4 a good while. as regards to getting near a poison-rat, weed killer, we are next to a farm so that may be a possibility but wouldn't that have shown up in the blood tests?

I had a 20+yr.old mare that lost a lot of weight,I had an old man suggest putting a big spoonfull like the size you would use to dip beans or soup with of diatomaceous earth in with her feed once a week, I also put a little corn oil on her feed about everyday, some times i would miss a day, dont know how you feel about home remedies, some people are not comfortable with them but this worked for my mare,of course it took a little while to start to see the weight gain but then again a little at a time seems to better than all at once,
