Default Chiropractor problem or Not??

Maybe someone can put some light on this subject. I have a 13 year old Gelding that I bought last Oct. Being In Wisconsin our outside riding is limited. Everytime I took him out he was great, no problem perfect rides every time relaxed and intuned. This spring I also took him out a few times with his new custom made saddle no problems. I had a chiroprator do some adjustments on him 4-22-10. When I decided to take a ride 3 days later, he did not want me on his back and started to buck ( he did get me off) The saddle fits him perfect, Classic Equine contour-Pedic pad and the only difference was that I went from a Classic Equine soft touch neoprene cinch to a Mohair & a argentina snaffle with a dogbone to a Myler MB106 with 7" shanks (which I had a few ridses already with this bit) He was really shook up, was not like him, usally he's relaxed when I tack up. Now today a day later I tried my Wifes Mccalls and My saddle and had no problem like yesterday never happened. Could he had been sore from being worked on? the chiropractor said usally there better right away. I never Dreamed he would have done this, Thank you for any input or suggestion on this

Denny (great name btw)...

If it is an isolated incident that your gelding seems to have already forgotten i think i would chalk it up to him having a bad day. We all do sometimes. If it happens again, start looking for basic solutions first (ie do you have too much bit, is the girth pinching, did you lunge him to see if he is still worked up without you on him, etc)

It could have been that he was still sore but most of the time sore horses are not excited, theyre sullen. Unless, something REALLY hurts and they cant get away from it.

May i ask why you had the chiropractic work done? And was it done by a professional?

Yep he was kinda Excited, snorting and all that stuff. Decided to Go back to my old bit, some call it a training snaffle with a dog bone center?? I did notice that my other cinch( soft Touch) was a 32 as well but it was longer? so maybe it rode up higher and off his ribs both are a roper style , Maybe the mohair pinched. I was thinking when I was riding him last fall and earlier this spring he had his winter coat so maybe he had enough hair that the cinch didn't bother him? The saddle has a Quarter horse bars fits him good. I did lounge him with just the saddle right away, No Buck lounged just find. And for the Chiroprator I got it as a present from a friend. Thank you

LOL sounds like your gelding was celebrating his new adjustment. Personally i might stick with your snaffle bit though unless there is a reaso you need more leverage. A 7" shank is a hellofa big bit that is going to apply tons of pressure on your horse's head (kind of like putting his head in a vice)

Here's a update on my Gelding. I had a Vet. Certified Chiropractor do the work this time. What she found was a huge muscle knot on his right side by his croup and his neck and poll was out of adjustment. I put some sore no more on and rested him a few days and we had a nice ride and seems he's back to himself. I'm having her come back in a week or so and check him over and make sure he held the adjustment, she said that she is pretty sure he would. Love the new saddle and went from my $80.00 Myler to my $15.00 bit which he really likes and respond's to very well. So far so good
