Default Help? My horse has a hematoma!!

Hello out there, im new to this forum.. just wondering, my mare
has a hematoma on her inside back leg/thigh... Near her groin area,
she was running around the paddock and we opened up the gates to the big paddock and she turned the corner at a sharp angle at a streched out gallop... she had slipped and was only lame for a few mins, 2 days later I noticed there was swelling, she wouldnt let me near it to check it out it just got bigger and bigger, I took her to the vets ... they poked it with a needle and drew some of it out.. and it was blood.. she said theres not.much I can do and she gave me bute for her for 5 days.. she said if it gets too big in a weeks time then I should come back.. I cant afford a vet at this very moment cuz ive just moved and it can be finacially stressful.. but its the size of a water melon!!!! its big.. she sais its fine... what do I do? was ment to be showing this season.. oh well any suggestions on how to help it go down?

cold hose it to help reduce the swelling, keep giving her bute (up to 2 grams twice a day) and if there is no improvment fairly soon, find another vet who is more concerned. You can go without lunch for a week or two but swelling that large can cause major muscle dammage.
