Default Eye question

My mare has a peach colored spot on her eye below the pupil. This spot has progressed in size over the last couple weeks. The eye is starting to ooze also. It is irritated. The lower lid is swollen from rubbing.

Any ideas what this could be?

Default Cornea Scratch

A friend of mine has a mare who scratched her cornea. I would have the vet look at her. They might be able to give you some medicine to put on it. This mare had a blue cloudy look to her eye though. We were afraid she was going to go blind in it but it cleared up.

If the corneal surface of the eye is damaged, the most likely result is an ulcer, which can be very painful.Corneal ulcers are really common so itīs probably the first thing the vet will suspect if he sees a horse with suddenly red, sore, half-closed and weeping eye.It is absolutely essential that you consult a vet immediately for any problem concerning your horse's eye. any inappropriate treatment or the lack of proper treatment can lead to blindness.

This is an Emergancy. Any time you have a problem with an eye it should be seen by the vet ASAP. Eyes go bad VERY quickly, and if left untreated can be very costly for you and Very painful for the horse. The horse can potentially loose the eye if not treated properly.
