Please help me design a "pass through" opening in our pasture fence. I've seen several designs but need actual dimensions/materials, etc. We'd like to walk through the gate, sometimes with tack, without having to open a gate or latch but of course an opening a horse cannot walk through or get stuck in. Thanks!
I've never heard of them being used, but I recently watched the A&E version of Pride and Prejudice and they had this step sort of thing. You could always enclose it with fencing and a free swinging gate. The combination might make it escape proof.
The fence then @ a 45* angle put 2 posts at apprx. 4 feet, in the center of the < you will put another post to start the fence line again. The distance between the second run of fence is going to depend on what size person is going to be using the walk through.
Horses can't bend that tight so they won't be able to come out. Ponies however, are a different story altogether. You may have a tricky one, in that case, just a rope from the post to the center of the < at chest level should stop him.
The one I like most is called the Zig Zag Stile. not sure how to get you a picture of it but will try.
There is also a Step Stile and that is just building steps over the fence on both sides. The zig zag stile is what Ltc4h is talking about.

Reason: forgot to add information
What a great idea. I was actually wondering the same thing a few days ago but all I could come up with was the Pride&Prejudice style of a walk-through gate.
