Wisconsin Lien Question
Our boarding contract states that we may put a lien on an owner's horse and property if board has not been paid for over 30 days. We have a client who in the past eight months, has only paid $200 towards his board. And, that was only because we had a Sheriff call him and tell him that we were going to sell his horse if he didn't pay his board. We have left numerous messages on his voice mail, with no response. We are considering selling the horse to recoup our money. Has anyone ever done this? I'm in the process of trying to find out if we can just sell the horse without getting a court order. Again, this is in Wisconsin. He owes us over $2300 at this point and the bill is going up. I have a farrier coming next week because he needs a trim badly and, will be doing Spring vaccinations soon.
