Angry Finally had enough.

Hey everyone,

Most of you know I've had past issues at my barn I board at and have these issues ever since I bought Jolly.

Well, I finally had enough..and this will probably disgust most of you.

Here it goes:

Jolly seemed to drop weight after he had a "cold" (which IS normal) but he didn't gain any of it back. So I asked the barn manager why he isn't gaining the weight back, it had been about two or more weeks after the illness. He claimed the horses were chasing him off in the field and he wasn't getting any feed. So he then offered to put him up in a stall - feed him - then turn him out. Which I was fine with.

Another week later...he was still ribby and seemed thinner than before, which in my mind a red flag was waving. So I went to check on him on a Sunday night and noticed..he wasn't in his field, he was in the stall - no water, no feed. And he started trotting around in his stall and grunting when I was standing next to the feed bins (he never has done that). So I gave him a scoop and he gobbled it before I was out of his stall. He was STARVING. I gave him water and feed..then turned him out and saw none of the other horses were fed or watered (this has happened at least 3 different times). So I gave them all feed and replaced their water.
I went and spoke to the stable owner (more like crying my eyes out) and told her how disgusted I was and gave her notice of me taking him out and moving him. She apparently had no idea about the whole thing and screamed at the barn manager telling him he better start "doing his job". It's been two weeks and Jolly his gained all weight back - and eats in his pasture and is NOT chased away at all. Which just proves that he wasn't being fed for however long of a time.

The man is a complete liar and disgrace.

So it's final. I have my instructor coming to pick him up on the 29th so we can get the him the Hell out of there.

Sounds like all the barn manager was doing is managing to sit on his butt! That is completely ridiculous! Even if the owner didn't know, that says something too. If I owned a boarding stable I would be out there every day making sure things were ok. I am so glad you're moving Jolly, do you know where you're taking him?

I don't get it. The barn owner does not know what is going on in the barn? When she is made aware of the mess she tells the guy to do his job? I would just fire the guy.

I have trained / boarded horses for many years - and any outside horse is treated like my own. For some years I was "barn manager" at a combined driving event - I did not have to feed or anything, but I was the first one and the last one to be out there and check on 80 horses.

People like this owner and manager just make me sick. Good decision to move! Just make sure about the new place.

Good luck!

GC

The owner has her own set of problems, which we've known for awhile.

I'm taking Jolly to my instructors barn, where I know he'll be loved and cared after.

Default Understand

We just pulled out 13 horses and move to our own barn. 3 years in the looking, it is amazing what people think they can get away with when their barns are full.. it cycles. Now they are way down.

Worried, I don't know they still think it doesn't stink.
