Default Why do people over estimate their riding ability?

Just got a phone call from someone wanted to lease our hunter/ex-chaser. He's advertised for an advanced rider for hunting or show jumping.

She's says she's advanced, but a little rusty. I asked her if she hunted. "Oh, yes", she says. I asked her what height fence she was comfortable with, she says "fence"? Jumping height, I say. She says that, no she doesn't jump, just wants to ride "English".

I tell her about the horse, that he's a point and shoot jumper, not a flat equitation horse and that he's an ex-steeple chaser. She says, "Oh, then he's an OTTB"? My mother used to ride OTTBs, they can't turn to the right, they only want to go left! Experienced, my butt.

Some people don't want to look like fools out on the field, so they insist on riding a horse that isn't fit for their riding level. There are other reasons, but I think that this one is the most common of them all. Instead of making themselves look better they actually make themselves look more stupid because they can't control the horse that they insisted on riding. There's nothing wrong with riding a horse fit to your experience.

i think that alot of the time people equate time in the saddle with expierence which we all know is not the same thing. That, and as we all can attest to: You never know just how much you don't know until you dont know it.

Horse riding is not too much popular as people prefer to ride bike, cars and other vehicles. Horse riding is only for fun not for travelling. People over estimate their horse riding as the riding don't mean anything in today's time.

People over estimate the riding ability as it is more people and as it also lead to a successful business. Different people had a different thinking about this. Most of the people make a deal on horse race which is one of the best way to earn money.
