Default Good English Saddle

It is that time again to celebrate my anniversary. And since my wife is a great woman I would like to buy here a very nice english saddle. Does anyone know of what is a "sought after" brand?

Now I am not rich but would like to have a decent idea of what to look for. I can get the size from her of her other saddles.

Any help?

I have a Crosby DSL. I love it!! You pretty much get what you pay for with these things. I wouldn't get her a saddle with knee rolls either. You can look into Crosbys, Passosas, etc. Try ebay.com, they have really niced used saddles for a good price!

Default Thanks Fancy

I have been watching EquineMinimart also some pretty good deals there but they don't last long as there are not as many listings.

I am going to have to to some sneaking around and see what I can find in the tack shed. I have it kind of easy she folds the corners of magazines when she finds someting interesting.

Prestige
Devoucoux

Default Great husband

WOW! Got any brothers ?
Most riders are very particular about their saddles. It is the most generous idea, BUT a saddle is a very personal item. You may be just as loved by giving a handmade gift card saying that she gets to have/pick the sadlle of her dreams. Or, don't know if you or friends ride try something like "Joe said he /she was going to buy a new saddle it cost $2,000 if you were going to do that and money was no issue what would you buy". Good Luck

Last week, I had get English Saddle for Horse riding. This a good, solid saddle for flatting my horse. This saddle is great for equitation. It fit my horse very well, and he is a large barreled thoroughbred with high withers. Its very comfortable for me and my horse. The seat is extremely comfortable for me and I feel very good.

Hmm.. If you don't want to break the bank and your
wife doesn't care what kind of saddle you get her
try a Wintec, they have saddles for different riding
disiplines like dressage, and jumping... Or they have
their "all purpose" saddles, the prices aren't too much.
The Wintec saddles aren't made of leather, some of
them have a "leather like & look" and ones that don't.

Check this link:

Dover Saddlery - Search Results for wintec saddle

I hope this helps.

Thumbs up Horse Saddle

English saddles:

* Put the saddle on the horse without a pad, tighten the girth
* Have someone sit in the saddle with their feet in the stirrups
* Slide your fingers underneath the pommel. Be sure you can comfortably get 3 fingers between the horse's withers and the arch below the pommel
* Make sure the saddle doesn't get in the way of shoulder movement by having a helper lift the horse's foreleg, pulling it to the front while your fingers are in between the top of the horse's shoulder blade and the pommel. Do this on both sides
* When you stand behind the horse and look under the saddle, you should see some light when the horse's head is down, otherwise the saddle is too snug
* Make sure the saddle isn't too long. It shouldn't reach back onto the horse's loins

Enjoy

English saddles are used for English riding throughout the world, not just in England or English-speaking countries. They are the saddles used in all of the Olympic equestrian disciplines.
English saddle is its flatter appearance, the lack of a horn, and the self-padding design of the panels: a pair of pads attached to the underside of the seat and filled with wool, foam, or air.

Wink Let Her pick!

I would let her choose the saddle. Plus depending on the horse it may need a larger or smaller tree! And you don't want to spend $1200 on a saddle that your wife does not care for the way it fits her and it could possibly hurt the horse if it fits wrong.

I did not know much abut the saddles before but now I am sure I know a lot about it... I am grateful for getting this knowledge.

Just as the western 'all inclusive' sets are crap, so are the English ones. You are better off getting a good used saddle than one of these painted cardboard packages. These saddles will actually cause your horse to become back sore, so don't fall victim to this.

Can you find someone locally who can help you, perhaps an instructor? Not that they know everything, but each horse needs a saddle that specifically fits him, and just ordering something off the internet because the price is right will generally only end in tears.
