Red face Newly gelded stud...questions....

Hey guys, I am new to the forum, so this may be in the wrong section...but i have a semi-urgent question...

i just got an 8 year old stud and he was gelded last wednesday...the swelling wasn't too bad at first until i came out here this morning and his scrodum and penis area are huge!

probably like 6 in across the front and about 8 inches to the back. The drainage is still open so it hasn't closed up too early.

Should i call the vet? or what?

I have given him a tablet of bute and 3cc of banamine (IV)

I was just looking for some opinions...support....idk...haha

this is my first gelding/stallion i have two mares and him...so its all new!

My gelding was swollen for a while, is there a lot of heat in it? Is he able to urinate ok? What color is the drainage?

Being careful try to smell for an odor, if none;
Then, normal follow up care is to cold hose with pressure 20min 2x daily. He should also be hand walked for 10-20 min at least 2x daily.
If he does not walk the swelling with continue to get bigger.
If your discharge is normal and drainage is possible, try the above first.
Also have him bedded on straw, sawdust can get stuck to them to easily.

Howdy! Sometimes mine do swell quite a bit. I keep en eye on it, keep it clean/flyspray around it if in fly season, and give a tetanus shot. If anything seems unusual, I always at least call a vet and ask for advice.
