Default breeding reports for APHA

Hi,

We are first time stallion owners and have never done a breeding report for APHA and would like to get some more info from some experienced APHA breeders.

Thank you very much!

Hello!

I used to breed and raise APHA's, I owned a black Overo paint stalion Ghost Shadow. He is now in Memphis Tn on a small breeding operation there. I no longer raise foals due to the horse economy and all the "backyard breeder's" horses out there that are flooding the market, at least fairly heavily in this area.

If your stallion and mares are registered (and all registered in your or your agents name, otherwise the Breeder listed on all of your offsprings paperwork will be listed as "owner that was listed at time of breeding") you want to get your stallion listed in the APHA's studbooks before you can do a breeders report. It costs about $60 which includes the hair test kit, you send in a small sample of your Stallion's mane and they test the DNA to verify the horse. Check it out on APHA.com or give them a call, they have great customer service.

After this is completed, they will send you a small card stating he has been listed and you keep that with your reg. papers.

Then you can fill out your breeder's report. You want to fill it out the same breeding year, I think it has a deadline in November, otherwise you get a late charge of about $25 but it's not a big deal.

You can download and print out a Breeder's report from APHA.Com - Welcome to the Association under "forms and downloads." There are discounts for multiple mares.

Hope this helps, Good luck!
