Default Horse Boots

I'm curious as to everyone's opinions and uses for boots. Whether Bell boots, splint, combo, skid... I suppose the most used in my barn would be a simple pair of splint boots.

What are everyone's uses in detail (I always get vast differences in answers...just the curiosity bug) , why and when do you use the boots you own, and when do you not?
