Horse theft is sometimes a big problem especially if your farmhouse is adjacent to a forest area. The article provides good information on the subject.

Default Thought and prayer?

I am confused about this one - I think there are real concrete and objective ways to protect your horse! Prayer? I understand you would pray if your horse it abducted or missing - but I would not pray to keep him/her safe. I would take action and do my best to make it safe!

Default Wait to Long?

I think the concept is if you are a person of Faith. Prayer would not only be a preventative measure but one who believes in Devine Protection as a reality, not a last ditch request. Though sometimes we see that happening.. as in the way America, sang prayed and cried out to God for help, strength, and future protection.

But that is the power of faith, deciding and choosing what you personally believe in... for we will all one day find out.

And my personal prayer is you never have to result in prayer to recover a stolen horse.

Default How Common are Stolen Horses?

I'm in the northeast where tack theft is more common. (People back up their trucks or trailers to a barn, open the doors and clean it out of tack.) I haven't really heard of horse theft in these parts. Has anyone here known people who've experienced horse theft? It never even occured to me as much of a threat until I read that article and then looked at netposse. I remember someone telling me about horses stolen from showgrounds of a several day show. I've kept my horse in temporary stalls at A show series, but not I'd be really hesitant unless I could stay there too. I would think that it's more common for those areas with very large acreage where a thief wouldn't easily be spotted? I'm going to get my horse microchipped regardless.

It is always better to know beforehand about what others might have experienced. If so many of them can be stolen there is no reason to feel safe. It is better to take necessary protection. Thanks for the Article.

Default Thieves are Thieves

I don't understand the whole theif thing it must be for that euphoria rush of getting caught I remembe stealing a present for my mom's birthday. I took an hour in front of that plate and the whole store new what I was thinking of doing. My dad business was right next door!

I was scared, took the plate and the worse part. THey new before I got back. Made me take it back and say i was sorry. Got a whoppin' and a valuable lesson.

I think we are to easy on thieves and our judical system. My opinion.

I want to know about that clip thing like lojac for horses. I will have to search for it.

That is a sad thing to hear of horses being stolen. If it were me, I would lock up the stall and barnhouse the horse is kept in.
