Chip
has anybody chipped there horse. I know there is no way I am going to let my family get chipped. But a horse? There are alot of fires up here in the canyon and 3 evac's in 5 years. It would make sense if there have been no side effects or hidden ag agendas.
Since they don't have to buy or sell .. just eat

Chipped and Happy
Hey, I've got all my pets chipped. Even poor Temper. He also has a tatoo, but I've heard that tatoos can be altered. The chips have been wonderful and most vets have the readers now. As an animal rescue person, we've found several poor pets lost and their chips found their owners for us. Especially during the Hurrican issue.
I'm not sure I understand about the fires? You mean they evacuated horses and then couldn't find their owners?
Anyway, chipping isn't expensive either. I'm not sure it's good for huge stock issues, but for prize bulls, cows, and your horses, it's a good idea. The cost for Temmper was 50.00 and for my cats and dane, only 20 as they wre asleep from bieng neutored/spayed.

When I got my cat, she was already microchipped by the SPCA; a wonderful free service that is now provided as a courtesy with your adopted pet. It gives me a feeling of security, knowing that if she ever gets lost or stolen, that there is a chance that she may be returned to me thanks to this chip.

I think chipping is a wonderful service these days. Not only will it help with relocating a lost pet but also help bring justice if they were stolen. Also thinking kind of along those lines if some malnurished pet is found and chipped there is no way an owner could get away with cruelty and neglect.

Microchipping is the best thing an owner can do for any of their pets. My dogs have been chipped since it first came out years ago.. I have not done my horses yet, but if I lived in an area that natural disaters accured they would be chipped.
As far as being evacuated for fires, It has happened in our north country. A good majority of the people don't have trailers or trailers big enough to haul all of their livestock. A few years ago we had two fires come together and people had no time to evacuate. Most just turned their horses loose and let them fend for themselves. Many horses were lost or they couldn't find their owners. We actually drove north and brought 4 horses down for people who didn't have a trailer.

Chipping is also great for proving a horse is yours in case of theft. My neighbor had 3 of hers taken. Luckily she had just had them chipped the week before. With the chips in the horses, the DA had a much better case of proving theft and the guys were finally charged!
