Has anyone done any freeze branding on their own? I know they say to use a vet but it can't be that difficult.

I would like to know I say a couple resources and I want to find out if they are the more popular ones? I am not going to do a large brand. Just something small. But want something to help out.

Theft is always a concern. If they can pull up next my friends house and the dogs didn't bark and get away with a couple horses than that is concern.

They found his very quickly, but his had the laser from the track.

Yep, I have help freeze brand quite a few horses. I would definately not recommend doing with out the vets assistance. You will want the horse sedated so it doesn't move and the area must be prepped correctly(sterile). Also if you leave the freeze brand on too long you can do some major damage to the skin, since you are using liquid nitrogen. I would definately talk with your vet. I would hate to see something bad happen and the horse get an infection from something going wrong. This is one time when sedation is your horses friend. Hope this helps.

I have seen quite a few freeze brands also.. I think they are a better way to brand if you are worried.

It just seems more humane, not to mention you don't get kicked through the shute!

That's why sedation is our friend, But I think microchipping is a better way to go. It is hidden and people wont be trying to change a brand.
