Default Water Oh No!

I can't believe my Trail Blazer has gone Sissy La-La, for some reason he wont go in the water?
Nothing to even point out a reason, He is sound, will blaze trail, hates being second. Just went to do a creek crossing and he put the brakes on...

No bad experience last time that I remember, Couldn't even walk him through it without a hardtime. He went back and forth but wasn't happy about it..

Any experience in that type of deal?

Default I had one

I had a morgan that hated water. Until one hot day he went close for a drink and then started pawing at it and I clicked just for fun, he tried to turn left I reigned right he went in...! we went up to the belly and I took him right out.

THe next week we went back and he took a couple quick looks and walked in again I guess it was just his time after 12 years. I never had an issue to push through water. I mean deep water.

Babblers where never really a problem.

Has anyone ever swam, swum, whatever the word is a horse? I hear they are pretty good swimmers.

It wasn´t clear from your post if this was the first time you have attempted to cross water. Has your horse done it before without problems? If so, then perhaps he sensed something wrong in that particular area. Try again in another part of the creek.

my tb had troubles going into water at the start of last year but we over came that and by the end of the year she was jumping in no worries

she had a long spell at the end of the year and wen we brought her back into work she was petrified again and we could not even lead her in so we were eliminated in xc at the water jump a few times.

we did not have access to any water to practise in because of the drought so we made a small puddle which first i walked her through until she was calm and relaxed and then i began to trot just taking it slowly and keeping her as relaxed as possible. wen she was calm and trotted through it like there was nothing there i cantered and put a small jump up and kept going through it as if there was nothing there.

the jumps got bigger but she treated it like a normal jump not any thing to be scared of.

we did this in about a week maybe less and at her next competition she went straight through the water as casually as if she had never had a phobia!

hope this helps
