Default Hills Or Flat / Friends or Alone

I was just wondering about somethings. Went on a long trail ride a couple days back and was alone. Just clip cloppin. And I thought this is really nice, Just looking around and wondering how many other people out there like to ride alone?

Or do you like to ride with a partner? Or in groups.. I like group riding if everyone behaves. But someone always brings a horse that should be on a trail ride it shoudl be on a a training ride.

Anyway thought I would ask and get some feedback.

i enjoy the company of folks i know well, or more importantly horses i know well. i'm pretty lucky in that my horse will ride off just fine on his own. i usually have no problem riding alone. i enjoy the peace and quiet by myself. lately though i more often ride with at least one other person. my wife really prefers me to have company for saftey reasons. my brother and i ride together often and it's pretty nice. we can kinda sense when the other wants a little quiet time. is good to have comfortable silences with a close companion. there have been times that i rode with a crowd and really just prefer to be left alone and not have to listen to some of the noise. it's then taht i'll ask someone else there if the would like to take off with me. most of the time i'm not the only one there with just that in mind. if nobody else wants to go i'll just strike out on my own. i get to ride only once or twice a week, and i try not to let other people ruin it.

as far as terrain goes i enjoy it all. rolling hills mostly around here, but the river bottems can be challenging, and i like them both.

I use to ride alone all the time and enjoyed it. Now where I live I have a wonderful friend that I ride with. Mostly because both of our hubby's don't want us out alone for safety. We will chat for a while and then there are times that we just go along in silence. I have found it nice to have a steady riding partner that you don't have to always talk with. I do like going out in groups, but like stated before only if the other horse/riders are behaved. I like to enjoy myself and don't want to have to be on constant watch.

Here in the desert there are not to many hills but depending on how my horse and I feel we love riding out along the farm fields or going out to the foothills and riding in the desert and through the sandy washes (that can be quite a workout even at a walk)

It all depends on my mood at the time....

It is nice to be one your own once in a while, for some quiet time. But I also noticed that most horses will be more jumpy, and harder to handle when alone.

With friends it is fun, I have even gone lots with groups of around 7 people (the place where I board has a lot of nice people in it ) and groups make almost any horse easier to handle (in my case at least) though then again they dont learn how to do it on their own.

Basically all personal preference

Always in a group for a trail ride. As we need to trailer off property.
But we always hack out after a school @ home, so it depends on who's riding, either single or in company, We don't live flat so its always hills no matter, just depends on size.

When I used to ride a lot of years ago, it wasn't uncommon to go out with 20 or more folks. We would knot up into smaller groups or pairs and then come back together. Often it was a training ride where one or two people were being ponied, but that never seemed to get in the way of the fun. Since most of the horses were pastured together, they knew the ins and outs of each other's personalities. For example, no one got too close behind my friends horse. She was very cranky about having space around her and wasn't shy letting any other horse know. So even if we had a new rider, as long as they were on a pastured horse they would be okay, because the horse wouldn't get too close to Queenie!

I often rode out with just one or two people and only occasionally by myself. When I rode by myself, it was usually in the lower pasture (the only flat area we had) that was close to the road and a straight shot back to the ranch. I guess safety in numbers was drilled into us, although I cannot remember even one lecture about riding alone. Most of us saw enough accidents that could have been a lot more serious if there hadn't been another rider to run back for help. I've been the rider on the ground and the one running back, so I know the value of riding in a group.

We had very few flat areas where we rode, since San Diego is primarily made up of canyons. Ironically, every summer we would go up to the mountains where there were a lot of wide open fairly flat meadows. We tore them up! It was great fun.
