Default measuring your horse

I was told that if you measure a young horse from the top of the hoof right where it meets the leg, to they're knee joint, it would tell you how tall that horse would grow to be.Does any one know about this procedure?I measured my filly today using this formula she measured a little over 15 in.I also measured her height at her withers at 54 in.If this is a fairly accurate way to measure she should be about 15 hands, thats pretty common for a QH right? She is about to turn two and measures 54 in. at the withers.

I have never tried that one, but I've heard it's pretty accurate.

Another method is to use a piece of bailing twine, and take it from the top of the hoof to the elbow. If you invert the string, keeping your finger on the twine at the elbow, it should come pretty much to where their withers will be at full growth. You do have to hug the curve of their body though, it's not just straight up. A friend showed me on her stallion and it was dead on.

I have heard of measuring from hoof to knee-joint, on a newborn only. Tried in on a Belgian Warmblood baby and it ended up being off by only 1/4 of an inch. (because he grew a bit taller).

I've never heard of the hoof to elbow trick. I'll have to try it. I suppose on any of those height-guessing tricks, it would depend upon whether or not the youngun' was properly cared for until reaching his tallest (so that he didn't end up stunted).
